According to NIH, a specialized doctor diagnoses benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH, considering several points, such as a personal and family medical history, physical exams and other medical tests.

Also, throughout the conversation with the physician, some questions must also be asked, such as what kind of symptoms the patient is experiencing, when did they begin and how often do they occur, what kind of medications are being used, among plenty others.

As for the physical exam, doctor will examine the patient’s body, including discharge from the urethra, tender or enlarged lymph nodes in the groin, if their scrotum is swollen or tender and also a digital rectal exam.
