4. BPH-Related Surgical Procedures
In more severe cases of BPH, surgery may be recommended as the best course of treatment, particularly if medication or minimally invasive procedures are not working, if the symptoms are very bothersome, or if the patient is experiencing further complications. The different approaches include transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), laser surgery, open prostatectomy, and transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP). All of these are based on the removal of prostate tissue, but it can consist of resecting the whole gland, part of it, or even its interior. Surgery is, however, the most aggressive treatment option for BPH patients.
