A recent study has found that benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients will regularly seek medical advice for some of the symptoms associated with the condition.

Typically, men who suffer from the urination difficulties that occur as a result of BPH prefer treatments that will help avoid future surgery and minimize the risks of complications such as acute urinary retention.

The study followed 101 BPH patients who had no history of prostate cancer for seven months to determine how they would use healthcare services to manage their symptoms. They were asked to fill in questionnaires regarding the treatment they received, what their expectations of the treatment was, and if they suffered any side effects. More than 70 percent of the men who participated in the study said they sought treatment for symptoms involving urination. Find out more about this study here.
