Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: What is It?

One of the most common prostate problems that men may have to face as they grow older, is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate, called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). A man’s prostate starts to enlarge when he is in his early 30s, from that moment on prostate problems may start to occur.

But how do you know if you have BPH? Here’s a list of enlarged prostate symptoms.

You may be noticing some changes in your body. Are you going to the bathroom more frequently than you used to? Are you feeling that your bladder is not fully empty after you pee? Well, this can indicate that you are dealing with an enlarged prostate.

Don’t worry! This is a treatable condition that, besides being extremely uncomfortable, is not life threatening. But first of all, what exactly is BPH?

In this video, shared by Assaf Chemetz, watch a great medical animation of what BPH really is. As seen in the video description, “benign prostatic hyperplasia, can also be called benign enlargement of the prostate, adenofibromyomatous hyperplasia and benign prostatic hypertrophy (technically incorrect usage), is a benign increase in size of the prostate.”
