Treating Enlarged Prostate With Low Dose Cialis

In this video from Neil Baum shared in June 2014, Dr. Neil Baum talks about treating benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) or enlarged prostate, explaining that medication is a first-line treatment for the condition and if it doesn’t work, then men can turn to surgical treatments.

Study finds men say Cialis is better for treating BPH than combination therapy.

Dr. Baum explains that although Cialis is a drug usually used to treat erectile dysfunction or impotence, if it’s taken at a low dose (5mg) on a daily basis, it can work to treat BPH. It relaxes the muscle cells in the prostate gland, which lessens the compression on the urethra and allows normal urination to happen for most patients within a month. The doctor discusses some of the side effects of taking Cialis, which include facial flushing, muscle aches, back pain, nasal congestion and very rarely, long-lasting erections.

Generic version of Cialis for BPH treatment expected to enter clinical testing soon.
