3. Bleeding and blood clots

Following surgery, the prostate or the surrounding tissue may bleed, and this blood may appear in the urine. This should only happen for a few days and is generally nothing to worry about. However, if you pass large blood clots in your urine or there is a lot of blood, you need to contact your urologist to ensure everything is OK as blood clots can travel to other parts of the body and cause embolisms.
